2021 Big East Transfer Portal, Vol. 12

6’11 forward Dawson Garcia recently announced that he will be transferring from Marquette as he undergoes the predraft process while maintaining his collegiate eligibility. Garcia is the eighth player to transfer from the Golden Eagles program this offseason, following Symir Torrence (Syracuse), Koby McEwen (Weber State), Jamal Cain (Oakland), Theo John (Duke), Dexter Akanno (Oregon State), Jose Perez (Manhattan), and Luke Fizulich (Albany.) Forty-five players have now transferred from the Big East this offseason.

Garcia came to Milwaukee as a Top 40 recruit from bordering-state Minnesota. In his lone season with the Golden Eagles, Garcia started in every game as he averaged 13ppg along with 7rpg while shooting 53% from 2 and 36% from 3. The 6’11 forward found himself on the Big East All Freshman Team by season’s end.

Although Garcia stated that returning to Marquette is a possibility, it’s completely rational to think that outcome would be his third choice with going pro and transferring to a new program being first and second respectively. Newly-hired head coach Shaka Smart will now be without the top five scorers from last season.
