2021 Big East Transfer Portal, Vol. 5

Marquette’s Theo John and Providence’s Jyare Davis have recently entered the transfer portal. The total number of players who have left the Big East this offseason now sits at 36.

Theo John played the role of enforcer for the Golden Eagles over the course of his four-year career, starting in 89 of 124 career games. While Marquette was not known for their defense during his tenure with team, John operated as a metaphorical and literal muscle in the middle for head coach Steve Wojciechowski and company. Initial reports stated that John was leaning towards pursing a professional career, but he instead committed to Duke shortly after announcing his transfer.

Jyare Davis did not see the court for Providence in 2020/2021 as a true freshman; this appears to stem from a concussion he sustained near the beginning of the season. After passing concussion protocol, Davis was unsuccessful in carving out a role for himself in head coach Ed Cooley’s rotation, but there seems to be the implication that Davis dealt with other minor injuries over the course of the season. With the transfers of 6’8 Greg Gantt Jr, 6’8 Jimmy Nichols Jr, and 6’8 Kris Monroe, 6’7 Jyare Davis may have been able to crack the 2021/2022 rotation if he had opted to stay, but alas.
